480 Minutes - You Will STAND PROUDLY For Our Jingle!

The more ridiculous The Orange Menace becomes, the more his cartoon racism taints us all. The more he gets played on the world stage, the more his buffoonish big stick puffery imperils us all. This week the dumbass effect caused the NFL to shoot itself in the product in such an unfathomably idiotic way you'd think there was some Russian sport looking to supplant it in the hearts of Americans.

By the way you are all heretofore expected to stand proudly and salute when the BAGeL Radio jingle plays...or get out of the country! Because nothing says "freedom" and "love of country" like forced patriotism.

Also by the way, the album of the year has arrived, and it is called "Wide Awake!" by Parquet Courts  It doesn't sound like The Clash, or Talking Heads, or Wire, or The Stranglers, but it is up there with the finest records made by those bands.
Lyric of the week:
"Those who find discomfort in your goals of liberation will be issued no apology.
And fuck Tom Brady!" - Parquet Courts, "Total Football"
Lyric of the week 2:
"What is an upcoming neighborhood and where is it coming from?" - Parquet Courts, "Violence"
I could continue quoting Parquet Courts lyrics from each and every song, multiples from each, even, but I'll let you listen and come up with your own favorites.

Long-time listeners have been pogoing to Parquet Courts for years, but now there is no denying it -- this band deserves and will receive wider attention, especially that of those who are perhaps a bit less woke.

Today's 480 Minutes program will be have less new music than the previous couple of shows due in no small part to other submissions suffering the extreme misfortune of being reviewed in the long shadows cast by the new Parquet Courts and Courtney Barnett records.

Today's BAGeL Radio debuts will include new music today from Courtney Barnett (Melbourne, Australia, @courtneymelba), Parquet Courts (Brooklyn, NY), Remember Sports (Philadelphia, PA, @remembersports), Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (Portland, OR, @MalkmusAndJicks), Wax Chattels (Auckland, New Zealand, @waxchattels), and Wooden Shjips (San Francisco, CA, @woodenshjips).

The show is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time and is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music.  The show is then rebroadcast in it's entirety beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., and one final time on Sunday at 1 a.m., followed by a rebroadcast of this week's Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m. and then a couple of old episodes of 480 Minutes from this week during years gone by, making for hosted shows all weekend long.

480 Minutes / Year 14 - Episode 20/ Episode #602 overall
Terrific interview with Brooklyn band Las Rosas.

Observer: You guys could do what Nimai from Prince Rama does with her vegan recipes and put these up on Instagram while promoting your band on the side and stuff.
Jose B: Oh, that’s cute! Ours would be so much less cute, because we’re not hot and our shit is fake cheese artery blocking stuff.
Jose A: Tostitos to the dome. Not vegan.

Read the whole thing here and fall madly in love with Las Rosas.
